Our Story

Mohammed Alam, an earlier owner of Hi Bombay in Portland, and his family are delighted by the warm welcome from Chelsea and the popularity of Indian food here.

In 1996, Mohammed became the Head Chef at Hi Bombay with his wife Ummay Alam. In 2003, they successfully worked their way up to own the Indian restaurant. Mohammed loves to independently pick locally grown meat and vegetables, ensuring great quality food at our restaurant. Enjoy fabulous-looking, healthy, and delightfully tasty food.

Boyfriend and I have never had Indian food before, decided to try it. Person answering the phone was pleasant, patient, and was able to have my order slightly customized (I don't like onions). Bf went to pick up food, said it was clean and pleasant. Food is good, a little higher up on the spice scale than I expected (I'm a wimp for spicy food), but hey, if you want some kick to your food, here's your place to go! I got the chicken saag, and the rice definitely tamed the spice down to where I could comfortably eat it along with some yogurt on the side (the yogurt cools down the temp in your mouth, haha)

I dined in here a while back and got food from the buffet, and tonight had takeout. Their food is phenomenal, and the service is wonderful. The staff were very kind and hospitable. It makes a great place for an outing or to eat at home. It's very filling and very worth the money! The best part is feeling full after eating but not feeling gross because the food is very clean and wholesome.
